Online Gambling Company 888 Holdings Bids for Bwin.Party

LONDON — The suitors are lining up for the online gambling company Bwin.Party Digital Entertainment.
On Monday, 888 Holdings became the latest online gambling company to confirm that it had made an offer for Bwin.Party.
GVC Holdings, based on the Isle of Man, unveiled its own takeover approach for Bwin.Party on Friday. Bwin.Party had announced in November that it had entered “preliminary discussions with a number of interested parties regarding a variety of potential business combinations.”
The Gibraltar-based 888 Holdings said in a news release on Monday that its board of directors believed there was “significant industrial logic” in combining with Bwin.Party and that it had submitted a cash-and-share offer for the company.
Details of the 888 Holdings offer were not released, but the company said that shareholders representing about 59 percent of company stock had committed to vote in favor of the proposed transaction.
Shares of Bwin.Party rose 6.9 percent to 106 pence, or about $1.67, in early trading in London on Monday. Shares of 888 Holdings fell 5.5 percent to 164.25 pence.
Formed in 2011 by the merger of Bwin Interactive Entertainment and PartyGaming, Bwin.Party offers various forms of online gambling including casino games, poker and sports betting.
It posted revenue of 611.9 million euros, or about $700 million, in 2014 and employs more than 2,300 people in Europe, India and the United States.
Bwin.Party confirmed separately on Monday that it had received an offer from 888 Holdings.
“The board and its advisers are conducting a detailed review of the proposals received to date, and will make a further announcement in due course,” Bwin.Party said in a news release. “However there can be no certainty that these proposals will result in a transaction being completed.”
Founded in the British Virgin Islands in 1997, 888 Holdings posted revenue of $454.7 million in 2014. It employs about 1,800 people.
